ABOUT ANAIT AZARIAN, PhD
Dr. Azarian is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and a Board Certified expert in traumatic stress treatment.
Dr. Azarian has extensive clinical experience. She has treated hundreds of children, focusing particularly on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Oppositional-Defiant Disorder, Adjustment Disorders, and Reactive Attachment Disorder. Her specialty is treating internationally adopted children.
Dr. Azarian is fluent in Russian and Armenian. She has first-hand experience with cross-cultural differences between American parents and their children adopted internationally.
BACKGROUND
After the 1988 Armenian earthquake, Dr. Azarian organized the Children's Psychotherapy Center for treating emotional and behavioral consequences of the psychological trauma in young children.
After arriving to the United States in 1992, she continued with her post-doctoral clinical training at Bradley Hospital, RI.
Dr. Azarian served as a visiting Professor at Brown University from1992-2004. Her studies and research focused on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in children and adolescents.
Dr. Azarian is the author of many research articles and book chapters. In addition, she presents her research and shares insights from her vast experience as a practicing Clinical Psychologist at international conferences and workshops.
After the terrorist attack in New York on 9/11, she worked at the Family Assistance Center for two weeks sharing her experience of treating traumatized children.
From 1992 to 2004, she worked as a Child Clinical Psychologist at the Bradley Hospital evaluating and treating children and adolescents.
Since 2004, she has been in private practice in Providence, RI.
Dr, Azarian was born in Armenia and still travels there each year to provide pro bono therapy to children living in orphanages.
